Microsoft is rolling out SP2 for Windows XP tomorrow, the 25th of August 2004, via Windows Update and Automatic Update. For those who wish to "opt out", but still receive windows updates, there is a tweak available that will disable the SP2 download.
I rolled it out at a client location last week, and I have to say there were no problems whatsoever. Luckily, if the workstation is part of a domain, the firewall and security center are disabled by default.

Yeah right. Rollout may be smooth but there will be installation hurdles for those behind firewall routers.
BIG hint people. Open up Microsoft's new SECURITY CENTER and add INTERNET EXPLORER to the exceptions tab by using the ADD PROGRAM button.
Otherwise...ya got's no connection to the outside world if you are behind a hardware firewall equipped router. You may also want to add other programs that need in/out connections.
Me? I prefer my SMC router's admin page. It's much easier to set up a very complex firewall protection setting. Those without routers or any software firewall will find the SP2 firewall quite handy in comparison to nothing along with IE's new popup blocker.
SP2 is working for me but not without a few teething steps in the first 5 minutes before I figured things out with no thanks to M$.

seems it was, but only to a few...
