edited September 2004 in Spyware & Virus Removal
Hello everyone,

I’ve tried the following Home search assistant removal guide but I got completely confused when it came to following my HijackThis Log files. Can you please help me? I got as far as number seven on the instruction manual and now I'm stuck. Here is my Latest HijackThis Log File. I would greatly appreciate it if anyone could help me thanks!

Stay in Safe mode, manually locate the exe and dll files in the entries above, and quarantine them.

Kazaa has adware as part of it's package. You are willingly exposing yourself to ads by running i, and you are slowing your computer down. Switch to Kazaa Lite, which contains no adware.

The Bulls Eye Network stuff should have been cleaned up by Ad Aware, so if you have not done so, please run Ad Aware and Spybot as instructed. If you have, then manually remove this entry.

Weatherbug contains adware as well. Why not just bookmark the local TV stations weather page if you really want to know the forecast?

Fix those items, continue the HSA removal, and come bck to let us know how it worked out. Feel free to post another log for review when you are done.

Please read our article on Defeating Spyware for tips on how to improve your Internet Explorer security, or to learn how to switch to a different browser. For more general information about spyware read this page.

You are running Windows XP, and have not yet upgraded to Service Pack 2, please do so, especially if you plan to stay on Internet Explorer. SP2 introduces some security features to help protect you from unwanted downloads in Internet Explorer. Upgrade to XP Service Pack 2 here, courtesy of Short-Media's downloads section.

Finally, if you have not already done so, please take the time to find out more about Folding For a Cure, a good cause by which your computer uses it's spare power to help search for cures to diseases. We would love to have you on our Team.

Thank you Dexter for helping me I really do appreciate it.

I'm not sure if I was successful or not in locating one of those bogus services.
The one I disabled is named NT LM Security Support Provider?? I have no idea what I'm doing here I'm just trying my best.

I did a virus scan on my computer using Avast Antivirus and it found about seven viruses, I deleted all of them. I also ran another HiJackThis and this is my new logfile......

No, that is not one of the listed services, you need to re-enable that.

It looks like you have a re-infector still present:

    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [javahq32.exe] C:\WINDOWS\system32\javahq32.exe

Go to the Guide, read post # 2 on how to generate a log of Active Services, and post your active service log here.
