I WOULD use kde, and probably try gnome, if only I could get LiLo to install :banghead:

KDE (Though, I haven't used anything more recent than KDE 3.0 and GNOME 1.x (1.3 I believe)).

Yeah, well, I dunno how to use grub, never have, and LiLo is on the Slack disc, so it's easier...it's just a matter of getting it to quit it's bitchin'...

I really like XFCE4. It runs smoothly on my Pentium 233 MMX lappy ; ), only using 30 megs of memory and offers much more than one of the *Box deskops, like copy and paste for example. For that reason i wouldn´t call the *Boxes a desktop enviroment but rather a window manager.

Also i would recommend KDE for people migrating from windows since it has a lot of features and is just fun to play with, because it comes with a lot of programs. For me it is the most complete desktop enviroment. I haven´t tried MacOS, maybe it should be on the list too, but then you could also talk about about windows explorer/shell replacements.

Scratch that! I finally got slack to work using lilo, and I've gone back to KDE! I tried Gnome a bit ... didn't like it too much...:-/

Still a Linux n00b but I prefer KDE. I like using KLaptop setup ACPI on my notebook since Gnome's Battery applet doesn't have ACPI options.
