Sharing an AOL Broadband connection using PPPoe?

edited August 2004 in Science & Tech
A friend of my sister’s parents uses AOL's broadband service (over a cable connection). I have successfully set up their network so each computer can log onto AOL and use the web, BUT, only one screen name can be "logged in" using AOL's stupid software (which it appeared to needed in order to use the internet connection at all, let alone AOL's stupid "features". Unfortunately, one person per account can be using AOL at one time, meaning if my friend here was online, and her dad wanted to use the internet, she would have to log off. ****ty.

Now, I've read that you can have the router log in (using a PPPoe connection) with the U/P format of username@aol.com/password. By setting this up on the router, everyone connected to the network should be able to surf the web. But, my friend's dad wants to use all the stupid AOL "features" as well.

Would he be able to continue to use the AOL client, while the other computers in the house connected without it? Has anyone here ever setup a shared AOL internet network? If so, how did you do it?
