Exploit-MhtRedir.gen I have a virus

Afternoon all, I just did a scan using mcfrees free online virus scanner. It came back wih one virus Exploit-MhtRedir.gen.
Now I have never had the best luck removing viruses. My attemps have allways ended up destroying the data on the hardrives leading to a format and a loss of data. Maybe it is because I have gotten some nasty ones but I usually just format.
I figured before I format I would seek your help and see if I can save this install of xp pro. I have everything the way I want it. My boot times are at 20sec with a half full harddrive. A lot of good tweaking went into that and I just don't want to go through all that just yet.
If you guys could give me a step by step removal of this one I would really apriciate it.
Thank You, Komete

In your case, the fix is easy:
http://www.microsoft.com/technet/security/bulletin/ms04-013.mspx
There are patches on that page to fix your problem.
This would seem to indicate that you are not doing automatic updates or manual Windows updates on a regular basis, as this patch has been available since April.
/me wags my finger and tsk-tsks at Komete.
Please do a full Windows update, which you can do instead of using the patch above, and it will fix several other security issues.
Let me know when you have done that.
