where to start?

Ooops - I probably should have given more info about sod-hell...
IE opens periodically to a web-site 'sod-hell.com' and gives a referrence to a poll. Apparently if you click the link it will disable IE. Until now when it pops up I've just ctrl-alt-del and end-tasked the window. Hopefully that gives a little more in-site to the problem.
Any assistance would be greatly appreciated!


I've read lots of threads dealing with the "sod-hell" problem. I've got it my self but am still having a hard time removing it. It turned off the system restore feature. Re-Checked with AVG, then Spy-bot, then cw-shred - still nothing was found

    please update to the latest version of hijackthis, available from the first link in my sig, and post a new log. It reveals hijacks that are not visible to older versions.

    Hey Guys...
    sorry to bump, but I haven't had a reply for a couple of days and I was hoping that I wasn't overlooked. I highly doubt I've stumped you guys - I'm sure you've seen this one before. If all are too busy...please accept my apologies!

    I'm having a problem with a IE hijack program that opens IE to a website called sod-hell.com. IE opens to the pre-set home page...then changes to the sod-hell site. :banghead:

    I've turned off the system restore feature, scanned with AVG, cw-shred, spy-bot and ad-aware. The "sod-hell" problem wasn't found and only a few cookies were found which I have deleted.

    Please review my hijack log (now updated - thanks shwaip!) and give any advice. Would be greatly appreciated!
    I want to remove it before I complete the XP update (serv pack2)

    I've deleted the hijackthis items you noted but I'm having a REALLY hard time with finding the regedit32.exe and directx32.exe.
    When I check the Windows Task Manager/Processes - it shows that regedit32.exe is running but I can't find it :banghead:

    I've turned all folders to show hidden files, I tried using Explorer to find - no luck, I've used the system search including show all files and hidden files. I even tried looking in DOS-mode to find them.

    the only reference I've found is REGEDIT32.EXE-2F6592BB.pf in the windows prefetch folder - argh!

    Any advice on how to find them?

    REGEDIT32.EXE-2F6592BB.pf could be your problem. It is definately not a required system file. Find and delete that and see if it makes any difference.

    I've deleted the file prefetch file in safe mode...
    Checked with AVG again, then AdAware then Spy-Bot, and even with CWShred - everything came up all clear

    I've re-booted the system and the Spybot teatimer.exe (runs on startup)found about 10 edited registries - including the deletion of regedit32.exe and directx32.exe - (which I didn't delete or kill the process on - wierd huh?) but none the less - they're gone... :cheers:

    I've turned the system restore feature back on
    *** but when I ran Hijackthis again it brought up a peculiar BHO that wasn't present before the recheck...
    "O2 - BHO: (no name) - {56071E0D-C61B-11D3-B41C-00E02927A304} - (no file)" see below

    What's my next step?
    it seems for now that the "sod-hell" was contained - hasn't poped up since reboot :cheers: but I wonder about that BHO entry...

    and second query - is the dual entry in the processes a problem?:

    I've seen other posts where has been a problem also...

    SVCHOST.EXE is a legitimate file. It is a sign that things are normal when there are multiple instances of that running.

    Get rid of:

    Sorry for the late reply...been away for a few days.
    I tried all that you recommended, primesuspect, spywareshooter and swhaip you rock! :Rocker:, the sod-hell seems to be gone for good.
    I've since downloaded service pack 2 and things seem ok...but from time to time IE seems to be a little slower that usual. It seems to hang momentarily then it comes up - (possibly the multiple cable connection on the hub? - bottleneck volume - we have 3 comps on the hub) - I don't think that it's software related - but if you see any thing else let me know.

    for now my initial problem is solved - thanks guys!
