RESOLVED Serious problem

edited February 2005 in Hardware
I have been using my IC7-MAX3 motherboard for about a year with no problems at all. I have 2 WD Raptors in a RAID 0 configuration. I decided to overclock my 2.6 pentium. When I changed the FSB from 200 to 210 the computer will not boot into windows and it says no RAID volumes defined. Am I going to have to reinstall windows and set up the RAID config again? Any help is appreciated, I've got a lot of schoolwork and information from the past year on there.

Thanks
Greg

Did you set the AGP/PCI ratio as locked at 66/33? If not that could be the problem, try dropping it back to 200FSB and see if it reads the array again and if it does look for the AGP/PCI ratio lock and lock it in at those speeds.
SATA drives don't like having their controller run above stock speeds.

Ok, I reset the FSB back to 200 mhz and sure enough it recognized the RAID volume again. Now it says:
Windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt:
    <Windows root>\system32\hal.dll.
Please re-install a copy of the above file.

    Any help?

Windows is installed on the SATA RAID configuration. I also have a third hard drive for storage. Perhaps the BIOS is looking for windows on the 80 gig IDE hard drive?

IDE slot 1 has the 80 gig hard drive
IDE slot 2 has a CDRW and a CDROM
    SATA slot 3 WD Raptor
    SATA slot 4 WD Raptor
    ----
(Dont know if this will help or not but, here are some of the BIOS settings)
    BIOS:
    OnCHip Serial ATA mode: RAID
    - SATA RAID ROM: Enabled
    OnChip Serial ATA: Enhanced Mode
Serial ATA 1 Mode IDE-3 Master
Serial ATA 2 Mode IDE-4 Master

    Hard Disk Boot Priority:
CH1 M. : WDC WD800BB-53CAA1 (this has to be the 80 gig hard drive)

but the only other choice is "Bootable Add-in Device"

Sorry I didn't see anything on this further when I did a new posts search, what was the problem with the missing file? was it the PCI/AGP lock that hosed the array?
    I hope I helped.

    Hi,

    How did you fix it?

(p.s. always post your fixes... that way they give more understanhd to the people who help you, and to others who might be looking for a fix for the same problem you had... like me :) )

Just locked the AGP/PCI frequency as suggested and it worked like a charm.
