Asus P4P800-SE, PC3200 RAM

edited September 2004 in Hardware
Hey all,

I've recently purchased an Asus P4P800-SE, Intel P4 2.8E CPU and 512MB of PC3200 (400Mhz) RAM that I had laying around.

When I put it all together, all is running fine.

However, I recently purchased another stick of PC3200 (400MHZ) RAM, and when I came to stick in my machine, to make a total of 1GB ram, my DDR is now running at 320MHz ????? :mean:

What's the deal ??

I've tried each stick individually, and when they are inserted by themselves, they indeed run at 400MhZ. But as soon as I insert them togheter (I've tried all slots, by the way), they come up 320Mhz, Dual-channel or single channel, doesn't matter.

The BIOS settings are set to run DRAM by SPD for now.

Any help on BIOS settings or what could be wrong would be appreciated, keeping in mind I don't usually overclock my settings.

Thanks all.

Are the RAM sticks different makes? That might be a problem.

Make certain that you have the ram ratio set to run at 1-1 with the fsb. This won't be overclocking it but you might have to set it manually, what's happening doesn't make sense but these things do occour.
