Dumb Accountant Needs Help

I have run Spybot 1.3 dated 8/30/04 and removed all spyware found. I have also run Adaware build 1.04 with def file SE1R7 06.09.2004 and removed critical and negligiable files. The majority of which are something called 'IBIS'. I immediatly ran Adaware again and IBIS shows up yet again. How do I permanently remove this from my Windows XP System.

Here is my 'HiJack This' Log:

    Welcome to Short Media forums.

Before doing the following, please Set your computer to show hidden files and folders, Disable System Restore, and Reboot in Safe Mode.

Once you have done that, Run HijackThis and have it fix the following:

    R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar = http://www.seekerbar.com/ie.aspx?tb_id=50154
    R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page = http://www.msn.ca/

    I have done as instructed.

I then ran spybot and Adaware in safe-mode and normal mode 2 times and the second time there was no more mention of IBIS.

Here is my updated log, let me know if there is anything else I need to do.

Thanks very much for all of your assistance to date.

I have been out of town for a couple of weeks and have found that IBIS is still creating havoc.

I have run Spybot 1.3 detection update 2004-09-16 and Adaware 1.05 SE1R9 23.09.2004 in safe mode and then in normal no further objects have been found.

I have also deleted wtools, wintools , TBPS files.

    Here is the HiJackThis log:

I have my suspicions about a new hijack. I'd like you to be a guinea pig if you don't mind.

First, go to the task manager (CTRL-ALT-DEL) and then go to the processes tab. END this process:

    C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\VS7Debug\mdm.exe

Now, go into that folder (C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\VS7Debug) and RENAME the MDM.exe file to MDM.EXE.OLD

After you do that, reboot and post a new log for me.

I love being a guinea pig.

I went to task manager and could NOT find the process named C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\VS7Debug\mdm.exe.

I then went and renamed the file as indicated.

Here is the new log, I see additional entries in the log as compared to the one previously posted. Let me know what you find out?

Thanks for your help, it is much appreciated.

What kind of video card do you have? Is it Nvidia, ATI, integrated Intel, etc?

If you don't know, right click My Computer - click manage - click device manager -- expand "display adapters"

Sorry to jump on here guys...

For those 016 DPF entries, set your system to Show Hidden Files and folders, then go into C: -> Windows -> Downloaded Program Files, and see if there is anything listed in there. If there is, delete everything there.

Also, you have Spybot's TeaTimer protection running. This may be preventing you from making registry changes with HJT. If you cannot make the changes suggested above, please try rebooting into Safe Mode, which will bypass Teatimer. Or you can temporarliy disbale Teatimer by launching Spybot, chaing the Mode to Advanced ,then opening the Tools Menu, clicking on Resident, and uncheck "Resident Tea Timer."

Try those things along with the advice above, and let us know.

    Dexter...

You need AdAware 1.05 installed first (available on our security downloads page).. This is a plugin for adaware that may work.

I was able to finally download and run VX2 Cleaner using IE with nothing found. I will look into Firefox over the weekend.

The O16 entries noted in reply #17 have not returned. I think I am finally clean except for the TBPS entries in registry. Here is the log one final time. Please let me know if there is anything else suspicious or how I can remove the TBPS entries in the registry.

Thank you all for all the help over the past month or so  !!!!!

The log looks clean. I think you should switch to firefox to be on the safe side, though.

What do you think? Does the problem seem resolved? :)

Yes it does, thanks again for all you help. :celebrate

I may even start rooting for the Red Wings if and when they play.

    Sincerely,

    Dumb Accountant

On second thought, Go Leafs Go.

    lol

hey man, let's not get nasty :D

Ahh, the red wings are honorary canadians anyways, and so are detroiters in general :D

Have a good one. Don't be a stranger, we could use more dumb accountants around here ;D
