CPU clock?

edited September 2004 in Hardware
I just bought a motherboard and cpu combo as well as some new DDR ram to re build a pc with. It is a 2.4ghz intel P-4 with a 1mb cache and a 533mhz front side bus and some cheap matching motherboard that suports front side buses up to 800mhz. I think and ECS board. It was a frys combo deal for about $100. Anyways i want to make sure its running top notch and in the bios im not sure how to adjust things. There is one thing that says cpu clock and goes from 133 to around 250 and i can select any number in between. Where should that be? Also should i have spread spectrum enabled? Anything else that might need adjusting to boost performance?
Thanks

as your CPU is 533mhz fsb, u will have to stick to the default, which is 133, because with the P4, the FSB is quad pumped, so 533/4 gets you 133.

Just leave everything as it is right now. Start using the system, start reading our overclocking forum, and then when you feel like you understand what the numbers mean and what they do, then you should start venturing into overclocking.

spred spectrum should be enabled because it cause a better performance between processor and northbridge due to decreased radiations.
also fsb should be 133 by default it must be able to increase in a step of one , if your motherboard does not support overclocking it will jump to 200, if it does by documentation flash latest bios from manufacturer's site
