250GB HD stopped working after reaching 137GB limit

edited September 2004 in Hardware
I have a Maxtor 250 GB ATA Internal IDE HD.

My P4 1.8 (Win 2K) used to recognize the harddrive as a 250 GB drive and everything was fine until the capacity passed the 137 GB limit.

Now the HD shows up as UNKNOWN 125 GB HD in "Computer Management" (within Adminstrative Tools).

So I uninstalled the harddrive from the secondary IDE, to my Win2000 Promise Ultra 100 TX2 IDE Controller that also holds my 160 GB Western Digital.

After rebooting, the HD shows up as UNKNOWN 250 GB HD in "Computer Management".

Is there any way to recover the data off of the HD ?

I installed MaxBlast3 (the software that came with the drive), and it seems like the only thing this program wants to do is repartition it.

Thanks!

In computer mangement --> disk management if you right click on the UNKNOWN partition, do you have the ability to "import foreign disks"?

No... the only option that I have is Properties and Help. :(

That is bizarre. Do you have access to a computer running windows XP? If yes, try mounting the drive in another computer to see if you can access it...

I'm going to try one more restoration program and if it doesn't work, I'll move the HD to my XP machine. Thanks!

I have it installed on my XP SP1 Machine.

Disk Management sees the drive as a 233 GB Unallocated disc. The only options that it's giving me is to create a new partition and format.
