Opteron is 940-pin only for ECC REG Memory.
    FX-## is Opteron.
Socket 939 is like son or cousin of Opteron.

I imagine that 4000+ will be the 939 pin version of FX-53. Somethings taken away..some things added.

FX-55 is just the next logical step in the FX line. Putting out a new "bad boy" processor once in a while is good for top of mind media awareness.

I have to give it to AMD they are really making a charge forward. Don't know how long it'll be before intel can catch up but Goooo AMD. It would be funny if in a few years we would be buying Intel for a low cost hi performance chip with Amd dominating the market.

    FX will always be 940-pin.

What I meant is that 4000+ will sort of be the 939-pin variation of what FX53 is/was...if that gives you some basis of comparison.

FX-55 is the next 930-pin super duper speedy Opteron.

At least that's my guess. :)

where have you been hiding?? the fx-53 and 51 have ben around in the 939 for quite awhile!
    look here:http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDesc.asp?description=19-103-458&depa=0

the fx-51 was also both 940 and 939 as is the fx-53.
the fx-55 will only be made in the 939 and nothing else!
the 940 from here on out will be only for the optrons.
and finaly there is no socket 930.
all of this can be easily checked by shoping for them at many places, i like newegg.com for thier service and the reviews.
also, all the fx-55 and athlon 64 4000+ chips will be the new .09 process(90nm) witch has been proven in the AMD cores to run cooler and faster the 3200+ 64 runs almost as fast as the fx-53!!
