Win98se Internet Connection Sharing problem

edited September 2004 in Science & Tech
Ok, thanks to some great people here I finally got my router to work with my email, but because of the bad experience I had with Belkin service department I decided I didn't want to give them my business and returned the router and all Belkin cables and nics for a refund. Now I'm trying Internet Connection Sharing using a crossover cable and a Linksys card, but when I try to select the ICS checkbox in Windows Setup on my 98se machine, I get a message that my network configuration is not complete, preventing me from starting the ICS wizard. I have repeatedly uninstalled and reinstalled nic, drivers, protocols, and run the xp wizard floppy disk. According to my xp machine's network setup wizard everything is fine on that end. I know - I'm a pain in the ass and a glutton for punishment, why couldn't I leave well enough alone? By the way, I'm on a very tight budget which also played a big part in taking the router back. And since both computers are in the same room I felt the cost wasn't justified.
Xp machine has one Realtek card which has always been for the internet connection and one Intel Pro100 V card for network which was built in to the pc. Win98se machine has a new Linksys card that works when connected directly to the cable modem. The network cable is a Cat5 RJ45 crossover patch cable.
Any ideas?

Use your XP machine to connect the internet and use ICS off of it. I have 8 machines at the house connecting through my sat broadband connection, which goes through 1 XP pro machine and using ICS on it. Sorry I can't help you with setting up ICS on Win98; it's been ages since I've messed with 98.
