I'm going to format my C: in about a week but I have things that I need to back such as Work, Music etc.

How can I back up my computer? Do I need to Burn want I need onto a blank CD or is there another way?

Thanks for the help :)

Do you have (an)other hard drive(s) in that computer, other computers on the network with sufficient HD space? If not then yes that's probably your only option. It would be a lot easier and a lot faster with dvd's if you have a burner and some blanks laying around.

    EDIT
Another partition on the same HD would work too, if there is one.

Do you have one fat drive, or do you have it partitioned?

I think I have it Partitioned, I think!

1 FAT32 and 1 NTFS - is that correct?

If so, How could I back the files?

    Thanks :)

You really should make sure it's a partition on the same HD, before you go and put your files somewhere they shouldn't go, or somewhere they won't last very long, or somewhere with limited space, etc.

If all is clear, just drag and drop.

Any way of checking if the partitions are on the same HD?

I don't know how to check. Most people should know just by remembering the number of HDs in their machine. ;D If you have more than one hd, and those two volumes are the only ones on hd's then it's probably a different hd. If there is only one hd in your system but those two volumes are still on hd's, it's most likely a different partition. I really don't know how to check beyond that, sorry.

To check which drive each partition is on, you can right click My Computer and then click properties. In the window that pops up, click disk management on the left. On the right it will show you all your partitions and what drives they're on.

Hi, i'v Right-clicked My Computer > Properties but I don't see any TABS which say Disk Management. I have Win XP Home.

Ok, well try opening the Control Panel, Adminastrative Tools, then Disk Management. Not sure if that works in XP Home, it does in XP Pro.

Thanks for the help but Disk Management is not in Admin Tools in Win XP Home.

Yep, that's what I would have suggested.

    Compaq, Dell, what's the difference?
