HI again when i try to install a game or software from a cd on to my computer i get a box saying
16 bit windows subsystem. across the top and then it says
c:\windows\system32\autoexec.nt.the system file is not suitable for running ms-dos and microsoft windows applications.choose close to terminate the application.
It also has a close box and one saying ignore for you to choose.Hope you understand me.

I don't think this is spyware related.

Do you know how to do a repair install of Windows?

Boot off your windows XP CD

Instead of choosing "recovery console" choose "continue installing windows" and then when it gets to the part where it detects current windows installations it will offer you the "repair installation" choice. Choose that. Do NOT choose to "continue installing a fresh copy of windows XP" because that will ruin all of your install programs and user settings.

The repair install will reinstall ONLY windows, and preserve your programs, setttings, and other customizations. You will need to reapply the service pack 2 when you are finished.

If you have an OEM computer (dell, gateway, ibm, etc.) then you may not even have a Windows XP disk - you may have a "system restore disk" that came with the computer. I would not recommend using that, as it will wipe your machine and restore it back to factory settings.
