searchweb2 problem - HJT log attached

Please Help!!!! I am sorry to bother you with yet another one of these but I have tried to fix this myself without success. I have a searchweb2 toolbar which I cannot get rid of and Spy Sweeper is constantly alerting me of attempts to redirect my search tool. My homepage was also being redirected but I was able to get rid of the warnings and the extra tool bar using Spy Sweeper which I assume has only masked the problem but not fixed it.

I am running Windows XP. I have run AdAware and Spybot as instructed. I also ran OmegkillerSM which did not remove the toolbar. :bawling: Here is my HJT log. I would greatly appreciate any advice you can give me on how to fix this. THANK YOU!!!!

The C2 Media folks (the people behind this infection problem) have changed their infections somewhat. They do this whenever we adapt OmegakillerSM to remove it. A couple of weeks after an update to OmegakillerSM, we see an update to their infections. I guess they don't want you to be able to remove their crap from your computer, huh? ;) We will have an update to OmegakillerSM out soon which should fix this version automatically. It's like a little chess match....The funny thing about it is: whenever they have to change things, it is costing them money in programming / employee time. So, the more they have to change their crap to overcome our program, it hits them in the wallet :)

In the meantime, let's do a manual removal:

If you are not sure how to do some of the things I tell you, check the links I provide for instructions.

Set your system to Show Hidden Files and folders.

For Windows XP or ME, Disable System Restore.

    Reboot into Safe Mode.

Run Hijack This. FIX THE FOLLOWING:

    **************

    R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Search,SearchAssistant = http://www.haciirjxjuxprdhxqvzuo.com/7lvvKkN4AnojLrMUVYJTMG5eG7A8jfnyxnc8Quv2G7aYLe1KhS_BM/fyTqV7Erg0.php

    **************

Stay in Safe mode, manually locate:

    C:\PROGRAM FILES\PROXYBAT\Bows16.exe

    and quarantine it.

Then, go into C: -> Windows -> Downloaded Program Files, and delete everything in there. Anything you really need will be re-downloaded on demand when you visit the website that needs them.

Reboot normally, check things out, and come back to let us know how it turned out. Post a fresh HJT log for review. If things looks clean, re-enable your system restore and set a new restore point.

Please read our article on Defeating Spyware for tips on how to improve your Internet Explorer security, or to learn how to switch to a different browser. For more general information about spyware read this page.

Finally, if you have not already done so, please take the time to find out more about Folding For a Cure, a good cause by which your computer uses it's spare power to help search for cures to diseases. We would love to have you on our Team.

Thanks so much for the help. I thought I followed the instructions to the letter but I think I must have done something wrong. I fixed the 3 strings in HJT but, when I went to quarantine the exe files in Proxybat the folder was empty. I checked and I have definitely set to show all hidden files and folders. What happend??? When I reboot, the search bar is still there and the wacky RO search assistant string is back. Thanks again for trying to help me!! Here is my new HJT log:

Okay, we have some new files to deal with. Go back into Safe Mode, run HJT and fix:

    R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Search,SearchAssistant = http://www.mtmbmulhbujfi.com/7lvvKkN4AnojLrMUVYJTMG5eG7A8jfnyxnc8Quv2G7Yg9rFO3NJcWffyTqV7Erg0.htm

    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [four about] C:\PROGRA~1\MEALBU~1\five axis second.exe

That last file is your re-infection file. Find it and quarantine it.

Reboot normally, and check things out. Let us know if that helped.

update your version of HJT to the latest (1.98.2), available on our security downloads page (link in my sig) and then post a log with that version.

OK, we need some more detailed info from you.

    download the following file:

    www.dyskinetic.com/stuffs/process.zip ...

Unzip the files to a folder named PV. Then run the proc.bat file by double clicking it. Wait a few moments while it works. Then you should see a file called process.txt appear in the directory. Take that text file, and e-mail it to me, using the e-mail address I sent you by PM. I will forward that on to Mondi, who is actively studying this new variant problem.

What this will do is give us a very detailed list of all running processes, with all the modules attached.. should help with determining the infection files. Thanks for your patience, we hope to have a fix for this soon.

    Dexter...

Then, hit ctrl-alt-del to get to task manager, and end all IEXPLORE.exe processes. I see two currently running. They must all be killed.

Then, go to C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\ and delete the folder called Window Time Bash VC

After that folder is GONE, reboot, and post a new log.

Success!! (I think) - the annoying tool bars are gone but I noticed this O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [ctfmon.exe] C:\WINDOWS\system32\ctfmon.exe is back even though I deleted it as instructed.

Here is my new HJT log. Please let me know if it looks clean.
