Xbox 2 Chip Finished

edited September 2004 in Science & Tech
The XBOX 2 chip might be already finished, according to a German web site. According to Gamestar.de, the graphics core is finalised and it may be used by both XboX 2 and a future Nintendo console.
It seems that both Microsoft and Nintendo will license the same marchitecture and it's possible we will end up with the same graphic chip for both consoles. Knowing Microsoft, I don’t see this happening and I would imagine that Nintendo might flee from ATI due to the nature of the Microsoft–ATI deal. I don’t think that Microsoft would be happy knowing that Nintendo would have the same core.

That's odd. I thought I heard somewhere that Sony and Nintendo would go with IBM for their next consoles?

Nintendo always was, is, and shall be the best! :p Seriously though, I sorta doubt those two would share technology. I mean, c'mon, all the Xbox fanboys would piss and moan that the 'sissies' are on their level, and all the Nintendo fanboys (me, included!) would shout for joy and proceed to play their superior games on an Xbox2-caliber system! :D:D:D

nintendo gamecube is the first console to utilize an ATI graphics processor, the flipper chip. so i don't see a reason for nintendo to not use an ATI chip, the 2 companies relationship seems fine. from what i remember, an independent company named ArtX was designing the gamecube gpu, but ATI bought them out, so the chip became ATI branded.
