Appreciate any help ridding PC of offeroptimizer

Hi,
I have had a look through the messages and read the instructions for ridding my PC of offeroptimizer but was afraid to delete files without being sure what they are.
I have run AdAware and Spybot and removed files using them but the pop-ups keep reappearing. I would really appreciate any help with this.
Thanks in advance
Here's a copy of my HijackThis file.

    Welcome to Short Media forums.

Before doing the following, please Set your computer to show hidden files and folders, Disable System Restore, Uninstall Weatherbug, and Reboot in Safe Mode.

Once you have done that, Run HijackThis and have it fix the following:

    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [yupbkwwiy] C:\WINDOWS\system32\hanvgcjf.exe
    O9 - Extra button: (no name) - {08B0E5C0-4FCB-11CF-AAA5-00401C608501} - (no file)
O9 - Extra 'Tools' menuitem: Sun Java Console - {08B0E5C0-4FCB-11CF-AAA5-00401C608501} - (no file)
    O16 - DPF: {15AD4789-CDB4-47E1-A9DA-992EE8E6BAD6} - http://public.windupdates.com/get_f...de11ed2adb8ceb0

Then find and locate the files listed above and Quarentine Them.

Once you have done that, reboot, scan with HiijackThis again, and post a new log.

Sorry about the weatherbug thing. I accidently copied-and-pasted that message without removing that part :banghead: . Your log looks good now, but I'm a bit suspicious of winvnc.exe . I've never heard of the file, and PestPatrol says it's spyware related, but other hijackthis logs don't say to delete it. Maybe someone else has a better idea on what this file is.

No worries, thanks for all your help with this, the offeroptimizer pop-ups are gone anyway so that's good. Thanks again

You're welcome. Can you please go into the C:\Windows\System32\rc\ folder, and right click the file winvnc.exe file. Then go to Properties and Version, and post what it says inside version (you have to click the items on the left to get the text in the textarea to the right). Maybe that can help determine if it is spyware. Hopefully that isn't too confusing. =\

Hi, Ok have had a look and think it's okay, it's a virtual network connection we install and use for testing. No-one can connect to my machine without me accepting the incoming connection, we just use it for testing internally. Found this website too http://www.realvnc.com/winvnc.html. To be honest had never even noticed it was there but asked a colleague and they said it was fine. Here's what it says in the Properties file anyway:

    Company: AT&T Research Labs Cambridge
    File Version: 3, 3, 3, 9
    Internal Name: WinVNC
    Thanks for all your help.

VNC is totally legit. We use it for all of our clients.
