Would Babe Ruth have done as well without Lou Gehrig in the lineup? Can you imagine Gilbert without Sullivan? Do you think Paul's best days were those spent with John looking over his shoulder?

Today we take note of a very special milestone, achieved by the only person on good old 93 who currently poses a challenge to our top dog. There have been well over 1,000 people who have contributed to Team 93. Only two of them have reached the 1,000,000 point mark. Keep the pressure on, Jake - it makes all of us better!
JAKE TAKES 1,000,000!!!!!

Congrats Jake! Huge milestone man. We can only aspire to be at that level one day. If you were your own team you'd nearly be in the top 100 by yourself (114th actually). WTG :)

Thanks for all the congrats', gents. Couldn't keep up the effort if it weren't for the great community of folders we've got here; I may not be around much, but I know you're always keeping the proverbial homefires burning. :buck:

    Fold on....

Neither, I'm afraid. I'm a resident of southern California, six months (16 credits) away from finishing my master's degree in English, teaching a college writing course, and building / repairing / troubleshooting computers, networks, etc. when I have the time and opportunity. Busy, busy, busy. :)

Though I have no idea what this "folding" is about, 1,000,000 seems to be a big deal to the rest of these people.

    So basically, great job! :)

Hi Xeno. Basically "Folding" is something that happens in everyones body. Everything in our bodies is made up of proteins. Folding is directly related to these proteins. The quote & link below will explain it better than i could.

To quote W. A. (Bill) Thomasson
Alzheimer's disease. Cystic fibrosis. Mad Cow disease. An inherited form of emphysema. Even many cancers. Recent discoveries show that all these apparently unrelated diseases result from protein folding gone wrong. As though that weren't enough, many of the unexpected difficulties biotechnology companies encounter when trying to produce human proteins in bacteria also result from something amiss when proteins fold.

    Link to the item. http://www.faseb.org/opar/protfold/protein.html

It is all about doing our bit for Humanity, using the resources available to us. Computers. Some people have 1 old computer Folding, where others have access to many. In reality it does not matter how many. What matters is we all do what we can afford.

All the research is being done at Stanford University. It's people like you and me, that make this possible.

If you would spare a small amount of your time, have a look through this link.

Should you have ANY questions related to folding, just post a message in the folding section of the site right here.
