OpenGL vs. DirectX

I am curious which API you think _could_ make a better game. A game that has lots of particle effects, many polygons(tree's, buildings, etc..), and better visual appearance. Which system do you preferr and why?

Just so you know, this is for my game I am working on. I will do some research on this later, but I felt some peoples replies would help me to find out what to look for even better thus allowing me to research the goodies faster saving me some time. Cuase I have very little time :D

I prefer OpenGL, as I generally find it to be a faster API than DX whilst retaining all the graphical beauty.

opengl is faster but the graphics do't remain that sharp

DirectX based on the amount of engines that use it compared to openGL.
