Oh lord, someone help..

I'm not a religious man but maybe an exorcism is in order.I have been through Norton,S&D and other ineffective tools to remove what at first was flagged by Borton as a TRojanBookmarker.Gen. Now it just hijacks my web browser to about:blank - constantly! I went thru SYmantec's Reghistry cleaning - useless! Here's my HJT log:

Fix that entry and you should be all set.
  • edited October 2004
I have deleted that entry twice already. I deleted ii via HJT, would it be any different if I went into RegEdit and did it? Any idea why it continues to return? Thanks for all the help though!
  • SpywareShooterSpywareShooter 127.0.0.1
    edited October 2004
HJT uses Regedit to remove the Run entries, so it shouldn't make any difference. There must be a file somewhere that is causing it to return. Are you deleting image.dll after you fix it? If not that may be the cause.
  • edited October 2004
Well what do you mean "deleting" it? I check the box and have HJT fix it and it says it is deleting it. Is there somewhere else I have to delete it?
  • SpywareShooterSpywareShooter 127.0.0.1
    edited October 2004
yes, search your computer for the file image.dll, and delete the file image.dll from your computer.

OK, now ABOUT:BLANK returns every time I re-run HJT. Also, I still cannot find image.dll on my PC, even searching just for DLLs. I guess that might be the root cause of it but how the crap do I locate it? Too, HJT CONFIG had ABOUT:BLANK as my startup page, I changed it, deleted entries as told and still have this as my logfile:

Hi, image.dll could be a hidden file. Try viewing hidden files and see
  • edited October 2004
I have "hidden files or folders" checked in the advanced search option. Is there another trick?

Do you have your windows XP CD?
  • edited October 2004
Yes, what shall I do with it? Maybe I can throw it like a Tron disc and De-Rez Image.dll !

    Deadly discs!

    ;D

at any rate, boot off of it, and when it offers you the chance, go into "recovery console"

once in recovery console, use DOS commands to locate image.dll

It will probably be in C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32, or maybe C:\WINDOWS

use "CD" to change directory. so, if you are in C:\WINDOWS and you want to go into C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\, you type CD SYSTEM32

to go "back" a directory (or up, depending on your perspective), you type CD .. (two dots)

    type "DIR IMAGE.DLL"

if you cannot find it, type ATTRIB -H -S IMAGE.DLL, then type DIR IMAGE.DLL

if you find it, type DEL IMAGE.DLL or REN IMAGE.DLL IMAGE.DLL.OLD to rename it

    Time for drastic measures :rarr:
