...because I have about 29/30 entries which are Windows XP Hotfix.

What are they and what do they do?

Thanks

When you say entries, what do you mean? In the add/remove programs list?

They are exactly what they say they are - fixes. They are usually installed by Windows Update.

If you want to get rid of the entries, update your computer to XP Service Pack 2 and they'll all go away, because your computer will be up to date.

    Yeah! they're in Add/Remove Programs.

They don't bother me, it's just that there are loads of them.

Would it cause any problems if I remove them?

    Thanks

Yes it would. You would be uninstalling critical updates. Keep them or update to SP2 if you don't like looking at them.

    Uh...yes.

Hot fixes are post Service Pack ...fixes. If you remove them using ADD/REMOVE programs you are essentially uninstalling the fixes..which may be security patches, etc.

    That'd be bad.

Now I believe to remove the entry so it will no longer display without actually UNINSTALLING them...

    Run the Registry Editor (REGEDIT.EXE).
Open HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\ SOFTWARE\ Microsoft\ Windows\ CurrentVersion\ Uninstall, and remove any unwanted keys under "Uninstall."

Be a good idea to set a system restore point or backup your computer before messing with the registry if you don't really know what you are doing.
