Had some viruses on my pc and lost sound. cant reinstall for some reason. Had SoundMax onboard audio sys. I have allready reloaded windows and changed hard drives and still cant get sound. Any suggestions? Is there a web site that i can download an Audio sys. from cheap?

I think people need more info before they could help. System specs, onboard sound or sound card, what is happening etc.

Have you opened your volume properties and made sure that the muting is not on?

You might need to backup all the info and files off your drive that you want to save and do a fresh install of windows. It sounds like your registry might have gotten badly hosed by the virus.
BTW, is this onboard sound or PCI card, if it's onboard make certain it's enabled in the bios and if it's PCI power down your system, unplug the PSU and try reseating the card, it might have shifted in the PCI slot.

I have never heard a virus damaging sound card. The prob. is somewhere else you may be making some mistake

i think the best and quick way to overcome this problem is format and install back the OS. as for virus, i think it is better to run fdisk then power down ur pc for about 30 second. then run fdisk again to create partition. make sure u backup ur important files and make sure it is virus free. it's much more faster.

u make sure the sound card is detected in the pci slot.simply take it out and rub the gold fingers of the card by rubber then slot it in again. if don't work, change to other pci slot.finally go to device manager and right click the sound device then select uninstall, go to windows>inf>other delete all the files(it's Safe). reboot the pc, then run setup.try and see does this work. if don't email me. i will help u.
