FX5950 Ultra USB probems

Now here's a twist for you.

One GeForce 5950 Ultra
One Socket 940 Gigabyte Motherboard
One USB Keyboard

Equals continuous loop reboot just before memory test on post screen.

Remove USB keyboard and the system boots OK. Keep USB keyboard connected AND connect a PS/2 keyboard...boots OK. BIOS settings have no effect. Unplug USB keyboard...plug it back in right after the post screen brings up the memory testing message...system boots fine.

If the USB Keyboard is plugged in the system will continuously reboot right after the DEL to enter BIOS message appears.

I removed the 5950 and substituted an ATI 256 MB 9800 PRO....all problems went away.

Go figger huh? IRQ conflict? Doubt it. Because system boots with PS/2 keyboard attached simultaneously. Power problem? Hmmmm....could be. Vid Card may draw tad too much power thus causing a voltage drop on the USB ports.

It's a head scratcher but thought I'd post it incase anyone else was having similar problems.

What wattage is the PSU and what is the BIOS reporting?

Got any funky cards in there as well?

    Tried a different USB port?

Check if non- pnp OS is selected in the BIOS as well :)

Do you have USB control of peripheral devices relegated to the OS or the BIOS?

Tried both in the BIOS before with no affect. Switched back to the ATI card and everything is completely normal.

    Go figger huh?
