HSA Hijack (Completed Removal Steps)

RewiredRewired Member
edited September 2004 in Spyware & Virus Removal
Howdy, my name is Michael. Allow me to thank you in advance for your help. Here's my story: I went through the HSA Removal Guide, did all the steps. After all is said and done, I still find HSA files in my HiJack This log. I can't find any of the 3 services that the guide lists either. I will post my HiJack This log as well as my "Get Active Service" log. Thank you so much for your help. :)

Again, hello. I would like to add a few details about my Ad-ware problem. I got this virus by unwittingly running a file enititled "Q25204.exe" that was in my C: root directory. I don't know how it got there and if anyone has any idea I am very interested. Windows says it was created in April of this year.

Secondly, I have run Ad-Aware and Spybot. Also Nortan Anti-Virus. Nortan is finding files that it is call AD-Ware.IEFeats.

I have 3 new entrys in my Add-Remove Programs list (in the control panel):

    Home Search Assistant
    Search Extender
    Shopping Wizard

If there are any further details that can help you assess my problem, please let me know and I will do my best to bring you this information. Thanks again.

    Hi.

You're going to want to try our alternative removal method.

The files you must get rid of are:

    C:\WINDOWS\system32\rdjwf.dll
    C:\WINDOWS\sdkkh32.dll
    C:\WINDOWS\addrg.exe

The log entries you need to kill are:

    R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Default_Page_URL = http://www.dellnet.com
    R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar = res://C:\WINDOWS\system32\rdjwf.dll/sp.html#37049
    R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Search,SearchAssistant = res://C:\WINDOWS\system32\rdjwf.dll/sp.html#37049
    R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Int ernet Settings,ProxyOverride = http://localhost;

    O2 - BHO: (no name) - {CC74E0B9-F6BF-A716-4F9A-98CC5AAEA235} - C:\WINDOWS\sdkkh32.dll (file missing)
    O3 - Toolbar: (no name) - {BA52B914-B692-46c4-B683-905236F6F655} - (no file)

    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [KernelFaultCheck] %systemroot%\system32\dumprep 0 -k

    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [addrg.exe] C:\WINDOWS\addrg.exe

After you do these things, PULL THE PLUG on your computer - do NOT properly shut it down.

Then when it comes back on, post a new log.

    Prime Suspect and everyone,

I think I was able to rid my computer of HSA based off the information you provided me in your post above and the "alternate HSA method" thread. I thank you a great deal for this. This reaffirms my love for computers. Allow me to post my current HiJack This log. If you would, please verify that I'm free of malicous stuff. Thanks again.

My final question is, I recieved a "STOP" error screen. It reads KERNEL_APC_PENDING_DURING_EXIT and it said it was forced to shut down Windows. My guess is this has nothing to do with any Adware or Viruses but I ask you so I can scratch it off the list of possible culprits.

Again thank you, I hope to hear from you and I will spread the good word of Short-Media.com on to all the computer people in my office.

    The log looks clean.

The stop error sounds like it might be a hardware problem. If it happened only during that last step, then it may have been spyware related. You could reboot a couple more times to see if it happens again. If it keeps happening, open a thread in the general hardware forum and somebody will be able to help you.

Thanks for the kind words. We try our best to help as many people as possible. :)

Let your office know about our folding team, too. We would LOVE to have you onboard. Check out the link in my sig :)
