Xlime, VX2/f, BCPC --- Dirt

I'm a little familiar with xlime after reading a similar thread but, I'm not quite sure about VX2/f or broadcast pc. Quite frankly, I'm pretty sure that these are not my only problem areas. I have run Ad-Aware and Spybot religiously and just prior to this post. I would really appriciate any help with my current situation. I'm also really curious about decomposing this and understanding more how to help myself and avoid this in the future. Thank you. My log file follows:

    Welcome to Short Media forums.

    VX2 is the real name for the spyware that gives you the offeroptimizer popups.

    Before doing the following, please Set your computer to show hidden files and folders, Disable System Restore, and Reboot in Safe Mode.

    Once you have done that, Run HijackThis and have it fix the following:


    O2 - BHO: Idea2 SidebarBrowserMonitor Class - {45AD732C-2CE2-4666-B366-B2214AD57A49} - C:\Program Files\Desktop Sidebar\sbhelp.dll
    O3 - Toolbar: (no name) - {014DA6C9-189F-421a-88CD-07CFE51CFF10} - (no file)
    O3 - Toolbar: (no name) - {BDF6CE3D-F5C5-4462-9814-3C8EAC330CA8} - (no file)

    Then find and locate the files listed above and Quarentine Them.

    Once you have done that, reboot, scan with HiijackThis again, and post a new log.

    I'm wondering about the listings for Sidebar. The dsidebar.exe is for a toolbar that runs independent of my browser that I like to use. Is it the direct cause of my problem or can I get rid of the problem and still use Desktop Sidebar.

    If you use the desktop sidebar, do not delete teh entries that are related to that.

    No problems here. Everything seems to be gone. Thank you Spy. I really appreciate the help. What are the known sources of VX2, so I can avoid them.

    I have gotten VX2 six times before by driveby downloads (Before Spyware Shooter was created). It also comes bundled with lots of software that you can download off the internet, and is sometimes installed by other spyware.

    If you have any more spyware problems, feel free to ask here. I am going to close this topic now as it appears to have been resolved.
