SP2 problems with surfing, IE AND Mozilla.

I have used Mozilla and IE on XP SP1 AND 1a. Mostly to surf Microsoft's sites. When I got Beta2 of SP2 for XP I noticed something interesting-- lots of the .mspx pages would not load right, graphics and graphical buttons did not load or work. With SP2 for XP come TWO packs that are default upgrades that might together cause this and a few other things I will outline below:
First thing is that IE goes to 6.0 SP2. With any subdomain of Microsoft.com that pulls graphics functions or works through Akamai.net I get broken graphic symbols with IE set to defaults. with Mozzie set to use Javscript on Windows, I get same behavior on same page.
Remember up top I said two things and then only mentioned ONE?? that was deliberate. The second is this-- with SP2 and security packs for IT, you get a new Javascript parser (version 5.6 of Javascript), and the combo of tighter default settings in IE 6.0 SP2 plus the new Javascript, I get SCRIPT ERRORS when I turn on the Script Debugger from many Microsoft pages, http://www.time.gov/ , parts of Ziff Davis Media sites, and without Javascript running those pages BREAK massively (let's see, I went to the new Download center, none of the download links worked, the choice selectors do not work unless you have Javascript ENABLED, and at time.gov you can only see STATIC time even in Mozilla as Mozilla 1.7through 1.7.3 parses the Javascript errors there as a "general exception" and will NOT let the site feed running time-- you can only feed static time snapshots-- the dynamic time display WORKED with SP1 on XP).
IF I turn the script debugger off, I get site hangs but IE does not crash (with it ON, I get more clues as to what is up). IE 6.0 SP2 REQUIRES Javascript 5.6 to work right and be secure. Probable Javascript parser bug also. ANd the interdynamics between IE of SP2 flavor and th new Javascript are revealed when you turn script debugging on. So, if you ahve site issues, try getting into the Internet Zone security settings, and turn the script debugger ON. You might get some very interesting feedback. There have also been some cases where the new Javascript does not get installed if an XP SP2 install script hangs and the machine is power cycled, and a user in that situation might get to reinstall SP2 from a download center Admin archive. IT IS possible to get the installer to rerun locally, for SP2, but there are many things that can cause this installer hang including presence of malware and\or virals on box at update trime or lack of previous WindowsUpdating leaving SP2 unable to find deps for its install.
Again, one start point to find fix possibilities is the Microsoft Windows XP SP2 support area. IF you get into the XP product area of Microsoft, one of the links should be to the XP SP2 support although they keep moving those links around also as pages get revised so I do not want to tell you something specific in a message only to get told it does not work for some folks and does for others-- so will simply say to get into the Windows XP subarea and then look for a link to XP SP2 Support subarea or in worst case with access or usability problems as far as getting THERE to search the knowledge base at Microsoft or use the whole site searcher or site map searcher to search for 'XP SP2 Support.'
