first boot

hi,

i am about to build my new computer so my qustio is
can i use my existing harddrive on the new computer?
i have window98se.
or do i have to partition again?

also what would be the steps for my first boot and running windows after i install my cpu,mobo,ram,heatsink,and gfx card...
also about dos... if i have a brand new harddisk...then what about dos, is it already there or i have to install it somehow?

    If you are taking the hard drive off an old machine and putting into your new machine then I recommend a full format and reinstall.

    Ditto with Necropolis.

    Also, there's going to be nothing installed on a new drive. You'll have to install whatever OS you want to use yourself.

    ok,u reccomend complete format.. but what i said,is that possible? and what about DOS i know i need new windows...but what abt DOS where does it come from?

    why do u need DOS??

    what OS are u planning on installing on the new system with the existing hard drive.

    i was just curious...abt dos..like how gets in
    thing is..i have window 98se currently... may be i won't be able to back up the data quickly....so i was thinking if i could put my current drive and os into the new computer.....
    later on i will surely go for windos xp

    if you dont think you have any easy way of backing up the data, then the easiest thing to do would be to get a second drive and install xp on that, then connect the old drive as a slave

    that way you'd still have a clean format and install of xp, and you could pull of your crap whenever you got around to it
