Adware Vx2...[resolved]

Hello, I need your help. I recently had major problems with xadsq (OfferOptimizer).
Well I was fighting it with the tools I have picked up along the way... with little results.
Well, now xadsq seems to be gone... (not showed up in the past 4-5 days) along with the OfferOptimizer PopUps.
Now I have VX2 !! :(
Granted I have no pop-ups, but I know I dont want VX2 even tho it is being very passive at the moment.
I have run adawares VX2 cleaning tool. But I am not sure it is doing anything.
Last scan I had only one trace of VX2.
having said all this... please look at my HJT Log to see what is going on.
Thank You,
Chad

    Welcome to Short Media forums.

VX2 is the official spyware name for xadso. So really you just still have some traces of xadso on your computer still. No new spyware.

Before doing the following, please Set your computer to show hidden files and folders, Disable System Restore, and Reboot in Safe Mode.

Once you have done that, Run HijackThis and have it fix the following:

    O2 - BHO: (no name) - {00320615-B6C2-40A6-8F99-F1C52D674FAD} - (no file)
    O16 - DPF: {4A3CF76B-EC7A-405D-A67D-8DC6B52AB35B} -
    O16 - DPF: {EB387D2F-E27B-4D36-979E-847D1036C65D} -
    O16 - DPF: {EEECA057-AD0F-44A7-8BE5-8634CEDBDBD1} -

Then find and locate the files listed above and Quarentine Them.

Once you have done that, reboot, scan with HijackThis again, and post a new log.

OK....I did what you said... except when I try to find the files to quarantine them, I cant find them. There is no path like the files in the help section show, for the ones you told me to fix. So I did a search for them and found nothing, I tried the entire string of numbers and also just fragments of it. So when I restarted my pc... and did the HJT scan, those 4 files are back.
Tell me what to do to find these files, so they can be quarantined.

    here is my newest log

    Hello :)

    Fix the following:

    O2 - BHO: (no name) - {00320615-B6C2-40A6-8F99-F1C52D674FAD} - (no file)

    O14 - IERESET.INF: START_PAGE_URL=http://store.presario.net/scripts/redirectors/presario/storeredir2.dll?s=consumerfav&c=2c02&lc=0409

    O16 - DPF: {EEECA057-AD0F-44A7-8BE5-8634CEDBDBD1} -

Do you use pervasive SQL database server? If you have no idea what I'm talking about, then also delete this entry:

    O4 - Global Startup: Pervasive.SQL Workgroup Engine.lnk = C:\PVSW\Bin\W3DBSMGR.EXE

reboot, and post a new log.
  • edited September 2004
OK Those are the same files I fixed the last time, I could not quarantine them... because they are reg keys... at least I dont know of a way to quarantine them. I can tell HJT to fix them , but how do I quarantine them? last time they just came back as soon as I rebooted.

And yes PervasiveSQL is the database for the Radioshack POS software.

ok ...same thing happened... I let HJT fix the files you selected...and after I rebooted ...they came right back.

You have questions, we've got answers. ;D

oh god i crack myself up..

    anyways...

When you remove them in HJT do you get a warning from TeaTimer (The Spybot S&D registry-change prevention thing)?

Perhaps those DPFs are from a radio shack function? Maybe Pervasive needs them to work....I can't imagine how, but something is reinstalling them every time you boot. Are your actual hijack problems gone?

Hey, thats my line!! great stuff man!! :D

wonder how many people really got that one.... lol

ok, yes i get a warning from SpyBot when deleting the DPF files.

and my browser seems to be free atm, since yesterday not one redirection and no pop-ups. :)

so what about the BHO file?.... no warnings on that one.

I still get one VX2 object when i scan with adaware, after every reboot.

    Perhaps we defanged it?

I'll have to give you my newest scan log tomorrow sorry.

Thanks for the great advice and assistance!!!

I think it is defanged. I would warily consider this problem resolved for now, but if it pops up again, please post a new HJT log right away.

    Enjoy the site :)
