HSA please help!

Hello
I am new here and just found out that i have the Trojan Home Search Assistent on my computer along with Shopping Wizard and Search Extender. I have read a few threads on the topic and have scanned my computer with The latest Ad-aware and Spybot. But I have Windows 98 SE, and while following the removal guide some of the steps i could not perform. I am in desperate need of help, i have got 3 assignments i have to complete but since this virus popped up i have yet to start. I have limited experience with computers any help would be great.

Here is my log, i hope i went about this the right way. I need to solve this problem ASAP. Thankyou.

I am looking over your Log FIle now.....

but I can tell you this so far jsut from scannign it online..

you need to Fix all these below plus manually delete the file "cslvh.dll" from the windows system folder in safe mode by hitting F8 when you first turn teh machine on, and log in under administrator.

    R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar = res://C:\WINDOWS\system\cslvh.dll/sp.html#29126
    R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Page = res://C:\WINDOWS\system\cslvh.dll/sp.html#29126

You also have a VIRUS, your anti-virus program is not doing its job
This one is a Virus a portion of the ILOVEYOU virus
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [MSKernel32] C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\MSKernel32.vbs

How Do I Remove the Virus?

Unfortunately after the virus has struck there's not much that can be done to retrieve the destroyed data except to reload the destroyed files from a backup. However, after updating your anti-virus program or buying one, then follow these steps to correct the registry and get your computer working again.

Using the REGEDIT program, remove the following keys from your Windows registry.

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion
    \Run\ MSKernel32=C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\MSKernel32.vbs

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion
    \RunServices\ Win32DLL=C:\WINDOWS\Win32DLL.vbs

Not comfortable with Regedit? You can download a small free program called Love_Letter_Clean.exe from Computer Associates, Inc. that automatically removes the registry keys for you. It's available here. When you click on the link, select "Open this file from it's current location" and click OK, or visit any of the top virus protection site like McAfee, Norton, or Trend Micro to download a similar program..

Finally, let's straighten out your IE home page, which the virus reset to www.skyinet.net. From IE's Tools menu, select Internet Options. Right at the top of the dialog you'll see the Home page setting. Type in the URL of the page you use for your home page, and click Ok. That should be it. If you followed all the steps above your system should be free and clean from this painful love letter.

Information on NewLove - a far more dangerous worm/virus

On May 19th a far more dangerous variation of the LoveLetter worm struck, the worm spreads via Microsoft Outlook and sends itself to everyone in the address book just like its predecessor, but this version overwrites ALL files that are not currently in use at the time of the infection. Thus destroying most everything on the hard drive. It also is more dangerous because it changes the wording in the subject line and the name of the attachment it sends by picking a random filename from the users Start folder or making one up.

This is just to start... I will go over the rest of yoru log file and see what else I find..

Once i get rid of those R1 ones, do i need to pull the plug on the computer?

    Thanks

Please print out or copy this page to Notepad. You should not have any open browsers when you are following the procedures below.

Go to My Computer->Tools->Folder Options->View tab and make sure that Show hidden files and folders is enabled. Also make sure that the System Files and Folders are showing/visible also.

Please download Adaware and spybot S&D and install both if you don?t have it already. Make sure it?s the newest version and check for any updates before running it. Also make sure to customize the settings in Adaware for better scan results. Run the scan and fix everything that it finds.

Reboot into Safe Mode (hit F8 key until menu shows up).

Ok heres the rest of it as I can see....

Ok you look clean from what I can see.

remember keep your adaware and spybot up-to-date, I run mine every friday, you may want ot look inot getting a true copy of an anti-virus program.

    like norton Anti-Virus.
you can also go to www.antivirus.com
they have a free online scan.
    www.grisoft.com
has a free anti-virus program taht is very very good.

One more thing. The HSA, Shopping wizard and search extender still appears on my add/remove programs list. Is this a problem?

I got busy here at work so I wont be able to look into it right now..
    but they wont hurt anything..

I will look into them later today for you

I'm gonna interject just for a moment here to say that you still have some crap left on there. Lord_night did indeed help you get rid of HSA, which is awesome.

You still need to get rid of OmegaSearch. Follow along.

First, get rid of these entries:

    R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Int ernet Settings,ProxyOverride = ;
    R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Toolbar,LinksFolderName =

    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [ICQ Lite] C:\Program Files\ICQLite\ICQLite.exe -minimize
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [P2P NETWORKING] C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\P2P NETWORKING\P2P NETWORKING.EXE /AUTOSTART
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [GlobalRef] C:\PROGRA~1\OKAYSP~1\Option sign.exe

    O4 - HKCU\..\RunOnce: [ICQ Lite] C:\PROGRAM FILES\ICQLITE\ICQLITE.EXE -trayboot

    O9 - Extra button: ICQ Lite - {B863453A-26C3-4e1f-A54D-A2CD196348E9} - C:\Program Files\ICQLite\ICQLite.exe
    O9 - Extra 'Tools' menuitem: ICQ Lite - {B863453A-26C3-4e1f-A54D-A2CD196348E9} - C:\Program Files\ICQLite\ICQLite.exe

    O16 - DPF: {1D6711C8-7154-40BB-8380-3DEA45B69CBF} (Web P2P Installer) -

Now, do the same thing like you did with HSA removal - boot into safe mode and delete C:\PROGRAM FILES\ICQLITE (the whole folder) and C:\PROGRAM FILES\OKAY SP (something that starts with Okay Sp...) - get rid of the whole folder.

After you do that, reboot and post a new log.

Also, to get the HSA files entries out of your Add/Remove Program menu, DO NOT RUN THE UNINSTALLER. Quite often, uninstallers that come with this kind of problem have "time-bomb" re-installers that will re-infect you.

Use Easy Cleaner to clean out unwanted entries in your Add/Remove list.

    Dexter...

I deleted those entries you wrote PrimeSuspect, but i haven't yet deleted the ICQLite folder and the OKAY SP folder because i cannot locate the OKAY SP folder, even with the show all folders option checked.

    Get rid of:

Log looks clean. One thing I noticed is that you are using some really old ass antivirus software. You MUST upgrade that. Get rid of it. If you want free AV - go to GRISOFT.COM and download AVG Free Edition. It works great.

If you want to spend money, get Norton 2005 or AVG 7 Professional.

    Are the problems gone?
