Third Party Company Patches 'Half Life' Flaws

A company called <a target="_blank" href="http://www.pivx.com/">PivX Solutions<a> has taken it upon themselves to release a patch for the popular PC game 'Half Life'.

Even though the game isn't exactly fresh on the shelves anymore, the security research company nevertheless alerted <a target="_blank" href="http://www.valvesoftware.com/">Valve<a&gt; (Half-Life's developer) to flaws it had found in the game, but apparently the games developer failed to produce a patch quick enough.

The flaws in question made players of the game susceptible to denial-of-service attacks and complete code execution by an attacker.

The company, obviously a big fan of the game, decided to produce their own third party patch for other users. It is still unclear whether or not <a target="_blank" href="http://www.valvesoftware.com/">Valve<a&gt; themselves will be releasing their own version of the patch.
"Due to the severity of these vulnerabilities, PivX waited much longer than the industry standard of 30 days for a patch to be created and distributed by the vendor," the company said in a statement. "However, after 100 days and no patch or fix from Valve, despite repeated inquiries, PivX has decided to (address) these vulnerabilities with our free fix."
