Building a new Athlon64 PC suggestions?

edited October 2004 in Hardware
Hi,

I am relatively new to building PC's but have suceeded in putting together a few small computers for friends and family.

What I would like to know is; What would be the *ideal* system to build mainly for CPU intensive work i.e. video encoding, gaming, 3D work.
I have a budget of around £2000 to spend on this project and hopefully a little more if it really needed it.

My PC at the moment is a P4 2600 o/c @ 3100mhz, water cooling system with a cars heater radiator, 1 gb ddr400 ram, radeon 9700 pro 128mb, 2x250gig maxtor hdd's (IDE 1). The motheboard is a gigabyte GA-8KNXP (Rev 2.0). I used to have athlons before deciding I wanted to try a P4... :banghead: however I miss the athlon processors (cannot beat em for speed!)

Basically I would like the best kickass system that £2000+ would buy.

Thank you

i think you'd want a socket 939 mobo.. with perhaps an nForce3 Ultra? i hear the gigabyte GA-K8NSNXP-939 is supposed to be pretty good... but wait for some other opinions first^^

For 2k you have a huge choice. Does it include everything or just the box without KVM etc?

Basically I am building my own box, it's from sheet steel with copper tubing, quite heavy when finished but once in place it will hardly be moved. The 2k is mainly for the components; CPU, GFX card, Mem, PSU, Hard drive/s, DVD/Cdrom/s etc. Basically the entire insides.
