Browser Hijack Issue on Laptop

Hello, I'm new to this forum and I need a bit of help. I have an IBM laptop that has been hijacked. I have read several posts on removing this issue and I have run CWShredder and Spybot to remove any ad-ware. Couple of problem though, 1) I can't get AD-Aware to install 2) McAfee On-Access Virus Scan keeps getting disabled. I have included the Hijack This log file, hopeful someone can help me.

    Welcome to Short Media forums.

Before doing the following, please Set your computer to show hidden files and folders, Disable System Restore, and Reboot in Safe Mode.

Once you have done that, Run HijackThis and have it fix the following:

    R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer,SearchURL = http://s-redirect.com/?a=2&b=hc
    R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar = about:blank
    R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar = http://s-redirect.com/?a=2&b=hc
    R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Page = http://s-redirect.com/?a=2&b=hc
    R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Search,SearchAssistant = about:blank

    R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\SearchURL,SearchURL = http://s-redirect.com/?a=2&b=hc
    R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Int ernet Settings,ProxyOverride = nusphere-cd
    O3 - Toolbar: &Google - {2318C2B1-4965-11d4-9B18-009027A5CD4F} - c:\program files\google\googletoolbar2.dll (file missing)
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [dla] C:\WINDOWS\system32\dla\tfswctrl.exe
    O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [uninstal] regsvr32 /u /s image.dll

    O15 - Trusted Zone: *.greg-search.com
    O20 - AppInit_DLLs: ux68pxs5litn.dll

Then find and locate the files listed above and Quarentine Them.

Once you have done that, reboot, scan with HiijackThis again, and post a new log.

    SpywareShooter:

Thank you for your assistance. Here is the new HJT log. VirusScan is still automaticly disabling itself after I tell it to enable. Also the install program for Ad-Aware does not run when I try to install Ad-Aware and when I reboot the llaptop the install file seems to have been erased. Any ideas on those issues?

    SpywareShooter:
I mis-spoke when I said I was still having problems with Ad-Aware. I was able to install, update, and run it without problem. The browser Hijack seems to have been cleared up but I still have the VirusScan Disabling issue.

I'm not sure about the virus scan issue. Maybe someone else can help with that. You still have this in your log though:

    O20 - AppInit_DLLs: ux68pxs5litn.dll

Fix that entry then find and delete ux68pxs5litn.dll

I found the file, deleted it, and Fixed the entry in HJT. But it seems to to keep reappearing. Everything else appears to be working fine. Unfortunately I won't be able to do anymore testing on it. I have to return the laptop to it user today, but I do appreciate all the help you have given me.

    This entry:

    O4 - Global Startup: winlogin.exe

Is also a problem, it is likely a re-infector file. If you can get the latop back, fix that and the files that SS mentioned.

I will close this thread as you no longer have the computer. If you get it back, and want this thread re-opened, please PM myself, SS or PrimeSuspect.
