USB Enclosure Problems with 250 GIG HD

edited September 2004 in Hardware
Hello,

I recently purchased the CD-309-USB20 enclosure from NewEgg.com along with a 250 GB HD from Western Digital (WD2500JB).

I have several machines:

Laptop P4-3.0 800 Mhz
Running XP SP1

Desktop P4-1.8
Running XP SP2

Desktop P4-3.2
Running XP SP1

Desktop P4-1.8
Running 2000 SP4

Desktop P4-2.2
Running 2000 SP3

From all of my machines, only the laptop recognizes the drive.

I formatted the HD via IDE connection with the Desktop P4-3.2 (XP SP1) to it's full capacity. The desktop was able to read the drive fine. After formatting, installed into the enclosure. Connected the enclosure to the desktop and it did not read.

After testing on several different desktops, finally got to the laptop and the laptop was able to read the drive inside the enclosure perfectly. I tried setting it back up to the other desktops and they still wouldn't recognize the drive.

The USB ports on all the desktops work with other USB devices, so I'm unsure what the problem could be.

Any suggestions?

Thanks!

I've updated the USB drivers (using the ones that came with the enclosure) on all the platforms...

Don't know how it happened, it works on all machines now.

A couple of days ago, I had to reformat my laptop (the only machine that saw the enclosure). After the format, had a tough time having the laptop see the enclosure again.

So I was going through all the driver information for all my computers. After I was done compiling the information, I decided to checkout the enclosure one last time. Opened it up, checked the jumper (it was on CS), made sure the connection was secure, tried to hook it up to all the machines, and they all saw it!

Weird... oh well... thanks for all the input and help!
