Needs help, badly

Like many here, have been infected with malaware. Has run adware and spyware, still keep recurring. Now even adware seems impacted, runs scan, selects critical obejects to quarantine, goes to delete them and it freezes, hence not removed.

Has this programs listed, cannot remove:
1.Search Extender
2.Search Assistant Uninstall ( I wish it would)
3.Shopping Wizard
4.Home Search Assistant

I have read all the articels here, follow some , others no, not a techie obviously.

Has used Hijack this, scanned and deleted as i saw necessary and safely.

Two logs:

    Welcome to Short-Media. :)

k, you have a few problems going on there. Because you are running Win 98, our Home Search Assistant (HSA) Removal Guide won't work for you, but we can do this all manually. I will work on you second log file, and then we'll see what comes back after a reboot.

I am only going to work on a couple of things now, and we will save the HSA part for last.

If you are not sure how to do some of the things I tell you, check the links I provide for instructions.

If you have not done so already, please first Run Ad Aware and Spybot S&D.
This is explained, along with several other things, in the link above titled Steps To Take Before Posting a Hijack This Log.

Please make sure that HijackThis.exe is in its own folder, as explained here. You currently have HJT running from a Temp folder. If you accidentally remove the wrong items, or I tell you the wrong items to remove, you may not be able to recover them from the temp folder. Follow the instructions in the link in this para to properly install HJT BEFORE PROCEEDING!

Set your system to Show Hidden Files and folders.

    Reboot into Safe Mode.

Run Hijack This. FIX THE FOLLOWING:

    **************

    F1 - win.ini: run=C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\SERVICES\MSXMIDI.EXE
    O2 - BHO: Class - {C456A362-3423-46FC-6AA3-B7B1D00B9FB8} - C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\NTHU32.DLL
    O2 - BHO: (no name) - {5321E378-FFAD-4999-8C62-03CA8155F0B3} - (no file)
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Windows SyncroAd] C:\PROGRAM FILES\WINDOWS SYNCROAD\SYNCROAD.EXE

    O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [SpySweeper] "C:\Program Files\Webroot\Spy Sweeper\SPYSWEEPER.EXE" /0
    O4 - HKCU\..\RunServices: [SpySweeper] "C:\Program Files\Webroot\Spy Sweeper\SPYSWEEPER.EXE" /0

(This program is not highly recommended, and obviously not working, is it? It's also unusual for it to be starting up twice when you boot.... I suggest you uninstall it.)

    O16 - DPF: {15AD4789-CDB4-47E1-A9DA-992EE8E6BAD6} - http://public.windupdates.com/get_file.php?bt=ie&p=9eafaeb2a8e2a9518112bc6e0cedee1552dd4ecb1dd748bcf1cf4d42ced1394245b14c137e17952f3a6abadc3d36297b2b37:b70ac5aa8ec48e2e58a29296baabe1d6

Stay in Safe mode, manually locate the exe and dll files in the entries above, and quarantine them.

Then, reboot, run HJT again, and post a fresh log. We'll see what is left, and work on your HSA problem.

It appears I may have some dupicate entries but left as is for your review.

So, once this is reviewed with comments, we can proceed to step 2, "Because you are running Win 98, our Home Search Assistant (HSA) Removal Guide won't work for you, but we can do this all manually. "

Again my sincerest thanks for your assistance.

    Best regards,

    Gary

Actually your log looks clean now. You should get rid of this:

R3 - Default URLSearchHook is missing

    for cleanliness purposes.

Do the problems seem to be gone?

I think between the fixes you made, and the ones I suggested, your HSA problem got uninstalled. However, it would be a good idea to go clean up the files from your first log, as they are still on your system.

First, make the HJT change that Primesuspect mentioned above.

Then, locate the following files, and quarantine them as per the procedure I linked you above:

    C:\WINDOWS\D3DU32.EXE
    C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\IEXH.EXE
    C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\SDKOZ.EXE

If you cannot move those files in normal mode, reboot into safe mode and try moving them that way.

Either way, reboot after taking care of those files.

Leave all those files in quarantine for a week or 2, then if all seems well on your computer, delete them.

Please post one more HJT log for final review. :)

First, thanks for reviewing the info I had posted and i made the changes you suggested.

Now the problems seem to have gone away except for one thing:

If i am in yahoo messenger, and i highlight a handle to view the profile, I cannot view, seems to be opening then I get some message that says windows/systems, and some dll file name, goes by on screen so fast can't obtain details. Then I get the HTTP: 404 error, but I suspect this is a forced 404 vs a normal one.

This deviates i know and I don't believe it is a yahoo issue.

    Thanks again

    Gary

You should try uninstalling yahoo messenger and then download and installing the latest version. I don't believe this problem is spyware related.
