I see HSA, but browser not getting hijacked

Greetings all. Hopefully this is an easy question to answer. While going through my add/remove program list, removing old software, I noticed some odd entries. They included Home Search Assistent and Search Extender. After googling and finding out what they are, I knew I had to kill them. The weird part is that my browser is not getting hijacked at all, and pop-ups are not a problem either. Is it possible to have these programs, but not have them affecting my computer? I still want to get rid of them, and plan on following the guide on this forum, but I'm just curious if it's common to have the bug, but not have it affect the comp.

*edit* I noticed that on another post Dexter said that to remove the items from the add/remove list use Easy Cleaner. Could it be possible I only have the programs on my add/remove, but the malware is gone? A few months ago I had the cool web search one, and got rid of it with forum help.

Could be. Give easy cleaner a shot and see if they go away. Or, just to sate my curiousity, post a HJT log here and I'll tell you for sure if you are hijacked or not.

I gave Easy Cleaner a shot, and deleted the entries... they have not returned, and no new problems have arisen. They must have been leftovers from the old malware I removed.

Thanks! ... now I have to go post on tech support about a new problem =(

Feel free to post an HJT log for review if you want, although I suspect you'll want to get your other thread fixed first ;)

I'll close this one for now.

    Dexter...
