edited September 2004 in Science & Tech
Every time I start up windows xp i get 2 messages. One reads: error loading C:\WINDOWS\System32\Nvcpl.dll The specified module could not be found.
The other is the same but the filename is
C:\WINDOWS\System32\NVMCTRAY.dll

Those look like the nvidia control panel and tray manager. Did you recently update your drivers or change video cards?

    Try this:

Download the latest drivers for your video card here: http://www.nvidia.com/content/drivers/drivers.asp
Go to control panel -> add/remove programs and remove the nvidia drivers and control panel.

reboot, and install the drivers you downloaded.

I recently installed an ATI Radeon 9200 Video card. When I did that I also uninstalled my old nvidia stuff. When I looked at the add/remove programs all I had available was the radeon drivers. Is it possible that I still have nvidia stuff on my computer that didnt get removed and thats whats causing the problems?

    That's my guess.

I'm not sure if those entries show up in "msconfig", but try Start->Run...
    Type "msconfig" (no quotes)

see if there is any nvidia stuff being loaded in the startup list (the far right tab). List any of the items with NV in them.

when i looked at that both the NVMCTRAY and Nvcpl boxes were already checked. Should I leave those checked, or should I disable those?

try unchecking them and see if the problem is fixed.
