Howdy,

I need a simple freeware utility to decompress files with the RAR file extension. Where should I get started with this? Thank you in advance.

WinRAR is free, and easy to use. :)

    EDIT
Wrong link, and upon inspection I guess it's actually not free I think... Sorry!

Fixed the link... I think you can download a trial though.

I've never had WinRAR quit working for me . . . maybe the newer versions do, though. If so, try www.sourceforge.net for an OS RAR (de)compressor like 7zip

    TheGr81,

Thank you very much. I D/Led this utility. It seems to be a free shareware, and I was able to decrompress my files. Thanks again.

I use and love WinACE. ACE is slightly better than RAR, and it will decompress all the formats I've ever come across, (including RAR).. It's so good, that I bought it. A bargain at $20

Only use lossy codecs (like lzip) if it doesn't matter that some of the data will be lost.
