edited July 2005 in Hardware
hi
1st post so here is my specs 2 start off with

amd64 3200+
asus k8v se delux
1gb ram
2 x sata 120gb drives

ok managed to install xp pro sp2 on the drive and runns sweet
i downloaded an amd tool to check the cpu speeds, it is saying its on 1050mhz :( when i know its a 2.2ghz cpu.
ive updated cpu driver with no joy
im going to try a bios update now to see how it goes.
if anyone in the mean time has any ideas please drop me a line here

    use CPUID or CPUZ

It just sounds like his FSB is set at 100MHz. Make sure your CPU has a 200MHz front size bus, and an 11x multiplier.

yes used cpuid, showing the correct cpu but only showing it as 1050mhz :(
it should be showing it as 2200mhz at least.
updated the bios but still its showing same 1050mhz.

thrax, where on this mobo do i set the fsb ?
i think the board sets them auto for ya
not seen anything in bios, but only to overclock a little, from 200mhz to 300mhz.

not sure about setting the fsb and multiplier.

    thanks again

im on msn if ya fancy helping out further :)

If you don't see how to change your FSB settings then look in your manual and it should show you.

It should autoset them, but some don't. The manual can definitely tell you how and where. :)

ive run cpuz and here is the cpu details
    core speed 1050.0mhz
    multiplier x5.0
    HTT 210.0mhz
under that ther eis bus speed which is not highlighted and has no settings in there
so im thinking i gotta change that multiplier init :)
    back to the manual :)
but where in the manual, feel ive been thru it loads :)

    p.s. thanks again guys ;)

Alright, there's your problem. :) Change the multiplier to 11x. :)
  • edited September 2004
ok there is a setting in bios for fsb
    its defaulted minimum at 200mhz
ive changed it up to 230mhz
but not sure where to change the multiplier from ?!?!

Whoa, don't go to 230MHz. That can screw up your PC, or make it not boot. If it's running at that speed, colour me amazed.

Multiplier can also be known as CPU multiplier, CPU Ratio.

Again, I don't know where it is for your motherboard. Thoroughly review the manual in the section related to your BIOS.

ok checked up on this mobo
and its an auto setting multiplier
but this bitch is sticking on x5.0 ?!?!?
if they sent me a bogus one im gunna kick off.
took me hours to build up this pc :)

Ok.. In your advanced chipset BIOS features... do you have a screen like the below??? :)

This is a screenie taken straight from the manual :)

shorty.. i think he needs to change his multiplier... not his fsb... go back to the manual and try again! ;p

    Wrong.

It does not have a multiplier adjustment. The board controls the multiplier by MHZ.

He needs to turn off "auto" detection for CPU speed & voltage setting.. then adjust the MHZ to 2200.. which the board sets the correct multiplier for based on his FSB (in this case.. 200mhz) :)

ooops sorry for not getting back to ya on this guys
must have had it posted up on a few forums :P

ok i got it sorted and thanks guys for your help
    much apreciated
i turned off cool n quiet asn this controls the multiplier and drops it down to x5, once off it went back up to 11x ;)

thanks again and sorry for the long winded reply ;)

he doesn't need to change anything i have the same MB and it has a function called AMD Cool-n-Quiet which slows the processor speed down to cnsume less power and release less heat. I forget which tab it is under, but just turn that off and you should be fine.

hey, wait a cotton pickin second, i think my proc has that, but i dont recall it takin the speed down any, i do know that it turns off the proc fan when it goes below some temp, cant remember, but I panicked once when I was looking in there and the fan was off, I was like awww $h!t, my computers gonna fry, but then it came back on.

    hahahah nice one :)
i suppose any1 looking inside their system would panic if the fan isnt werking :)
