Why Won't It Just Leave Me Alone???

I am having problems with Media-Motor, I can't get rid of it. I think it keeps giving me a lot of popups and I'm getting annoyed. I was wondering if anyone could help. Here is my log of Hijack This:

    Before doing the following, please Set your computer to show hidden files and folders, Disable System Restore, and Reboot in Safe Mode.

    Once you have done that, Run HijackThis and have it fix the following:

    Then find and locate the files listed above and Quarentine Them.

    Once you have done that, reboot, scan with HijackThis again, and post a new log.

    yes i am still having problems...........i ran a couple online virus scans and that seemed to fix the problem until i restarted my computer. Media-motor is still on the add/remove programs list and certain websites on my favorites list say that a server cannot be found.

    Media Motor still being in Add/Remove programs is nothing harmful. It is most likely just a registry entry that was not deleted. Editing the registry is very dangerous unless you really know what you are doing, so if I were you I'd just leave it there.

    As for the favorites, what are the URLs to the sites? Could they be down?

    do you have any idea of where in the registry that entry might be? I have messed with the registry before but only when I knew exactly which registry keys I was looking for.

    also, the websites that will not work are:

    http://retail.microsoft.com/retail/xbox/default.asp

    and another thing that won't work, and I presume is because of that Media-motor, is that on espn.com, the ESPN Motion (video clips) does not work. It was working after I ran the online virus scans but when I restarted they weren't working again.

    Search your computer for the file "HOSTS". Open it up and paste teh contents of it inside here. A hosts file entry may be blocking those sites.

    what type of file would the HOSTS file be? I did a search but not sure what to post?


    Also, I am thinking that my best option would just be to either reformat or try to do a system restore and hopefully go back far enough.

    You should never reformat your drive due to spyware. Never let the spyware win the battle. The hosts file should not have a file extension. It should just be called HOSTS
