Please help

I know a pretty general title, but as a computer moron I need help badly.
I'm an average guy who mainly uses a computer for email and online games and of course the occasional adult site. I recently got a spyware killer cause my gaming has slowed significantly. The live processes have gone from 22-24 to 34 in the last week and I started getting xlime pop ups. Now I know that there are other things posted about xlime and stuff. My thing is, basically in terms of computers, I am a retard and although college educated and fairly intelligent I am worried about messing with my computer, much the same way as if there was a problem with my car I would be weary about popping the hood and trying to fix it myself. Any advice (and please keep in mind I'll need to be explained everything, well after you're done rolling your eyes at how big a dork I am to be posting this) would be greatly greatly appreciated. I just want to get my computer back to somewhat normal. Thank you
