I just got a mx700 mouse and connected it up but XP doesnt detect it properly. It just detects it as a logitech compatibale ps2 mouse which means that not all the buttons work.

Can anyone help please ??

Cheers

It has to have the USB plugged in. The PS2 connector on the pod solely exists for providing rudimentary functions to the keyboard and/or the mouse such as in the BIOS or a computer without USB.

Sh!t, well that means I've got a £40 paper weight then and yep latest mouseware is installed.

My microsoft 5 button mouse worked with the kvm and ps2 adaptor, all buttons & functions worked & I could program the buttons as well. Looks like I'll be going back to a microsoft mouse again then.

I have to say that my MX700 with the MX Duo set up works flawlessly through the ps2 ports with no USB connections what so ever. Your problems must have a lot to do with the KVM exclusively. Of course that's just my experience on an NF7-S, a K8W(2885ANRF) and an old MSI board. All were connected through the PS2 ports and worked great.

Um, it is possible to do THIS:

Actually, two things are possible, but let me first note that you do NOT need mouseware to talk to an MX700. Try Microsoft Intellipoint. You will tehn have a three-button mouse, but you can set it as a Microsoft Wheel Mouse Optical and double the res default for that mouse, your MX700 will then behave reasonably speedily.

With Mouseware and SOME KVMs, the PS2 emulation they do gets int eh way of mouseware detecting the mouse. Some KVMs have a keybopard keystroke sequence to turn this off, in your case I would Read The Fine KVM Manual for shortcuts and commands it might respond to from the keyboard connected to it. EXPECT them to be three to four key presses, typically three at once then one or more following. I've also seen some KVMs with USB aux ports and an MX700 CAN be plugged in there also. Only other possible thing I can say is maybe a Belkin USB KVM????

In my case, the MX700 is plugged into a USB port on computer, but runs off of Intellipoint as I never use the extra buttons, just wanted the intense tight tracking and speed for digital photo work. When not using the USB one or know I will not for while, like it is charging, it gets unplugged and the Wheel Mouse Optical gets connected via the KVM PS2 Mouse connector. I work on many ages of box, so the Wheel Mouse Optical is a good common denominator mouse for most of them. I've run IT with non-current Logitech Mouseware, also (as an MX500)-- that worked medium well if acceleration was slowed down from default.

I would not say always a paperweight, depends on what the KVM can do as far as turning off the PS2 Mouse Emulation. IF you turn that off, try reloading Mouseware and see what happens, OK??? From the Logitech CD that came with the mouse if you have that, not newest version which insists what it finds is ALL it will run unless you play semi-massively with registry or do the uninstall\reinstall thing to change mice.

ADDED: One way to get XP or 2000 Pro (or Me or 98 SE or 98 with somewhat older Mouseware used) to detect an MX700 and then use it as that through a KVM is this: Unplug mouse from KVM and on each box, one at a time, install Mouseware with the mouse directly plugged in. Turn off the computers. Turn OFF PS2 emulation on KVM. Plug MX700 into KVM. Turn on computers. In that exact sequence. I found this a while back on Logitech's support info, had a hard time finding it, and it was for a different KVM brand and model issue with SAME EXACT symptoms. Mouseware, at install time, was misdetecting the mouse due to the KVM PS2 emulation "fooling" it-- so it installed driver tunings for a PS2 Logitech mouse.

Sorry if this sounds stupid but why can you not plug it in to a USB port?

Hi folks, thanks for the replys, I'll try some of them out tonight. I think I can turn off the PS2 mouse emulation on the kvm. There are a load of dip switches on it I seem to remember that one of them was for emulation. I'd also come to the conclusion that this was a kvm problem as it worked fine when plugged into the ps2 port on the pc directly.

@bothered & Komete, I can plug it into the usb port directly but due to space issues I need to have it running through my kvm, so i can control both PC's with the same keyboard & mouse, but the kvm only has ps2 ports on it. :(

I had bought an MX700 and couldn't get it to work right with a cheap-o linksys KVM, so I returned it. Shame too b/c I'd love to try the MX1000 out.
