I am buliding up a new machine just for laning.

Nf7-s, barton 2500 unlocked, 512mb BH-5, 8gb seagate boot, 120gb sata dm9
etc(everythings already built).

I have a Gigabyte 5900xt vid in my current machine, and i would either get a new one for it and do the swapsie or just get a better one for the new rig.

These are the cards i'm currently looking at:
Xpertvision FX5550 256mb 128mbit = $114
Xpertvision 9800se 256mb ram = $168
Xpertvision FX6600 128Mb, 128mbit = $190
Xpertvision FX6600GT 128mb ddr3 = $259

Any thoughts would be appreciated, also would that 9800se be moddable?

Thanks.

the 6600gt will be superior to those other cards no matter how much work you do to them. i would suggest stearing clear of the 9800se.. never know if you can unlock the pipes or not..

For almost the same price ($270) you can get a 6800 from newegg...I've unlocked mine and I'm pretty certain that it's probably more than worth the $11 difference over the 6600GT.

Damn, my supplier listed the fx66's in the wrong section. PCI-E.
But the 9800se has a 256mem interface and looks like it could be modded so i'm going for that one.

It'l be in stock in about 5 days, so once i get it i'll post more info.

    Thanks.

Yeah dont get anything SE. SE are usually knock off cards trying to fill in gaps in the market.

I had already placed the order.

And the price is about right, so it's better than a 5200 or a pci voodoo3.

I don't actually play many games, and the ones i do are mainly RTS and TBS.

    Good old Civ (Dos ver)

    Thanks.
