    Never heard of any.

But if you are referring to only having 133GB when you paid for 160GB its because of marketing. When they say 160GB are using an incorrect way of saying GB. They are using the decimal term GB which is 1000k = 1M and 1000K = 1G. Thats how we do math in everyday life. But thats not the way computers do it. Computers are like this: 1024k = 1M and 1024M = 1G. So by the time you convert the decimal 160Gb to binary (computer math) you only get aroun 133GB of actual space.

Dude. You can't "patch" hard drives to get more storage out of them. Some CD/DVD Burners allow firmware upgrades to burn at faster speeds, but usually at the cost of reliability. Also, you can flash some video cards to get more out of them. But these things are adjustable in the first place. You can't magically make the physical platter hold more.

Be careful with what you get on IRC, as a lot of things are nasty viruses/trojans or just plain annoying things. You never know what you're getting on IRC.

If you don't believe me, just wait for a few more responses in here. I guarantee the combined intelligence of every member of this forum could kick the ass out of any IRC channel. :p

Sounds like he is talking about the 48bit addressing issue, that limits the accessable size to 137gig, which shows in the os as 133ish.

Do a search here for 48bit addressing issue. I posted a windows xp, 2ooo reg patch that fixes the issue in windows.

windows xp supports it, to use patch with 2000 you need sp 4.

umm.. no. even marketing does not work that way. You buy 160gig, you get somewhere in the 150's of usable space. If they tried to market the way you suggest they would get sued.

Okay. I misunderstood him then. My apologies. If that's what you're looking for, then it's absolutely available... somewhere... but I don't know where.. :p

Actually with a 160 you get 149gb of usable space, I know, I've got 2 of them. This is with the WD SATA 160's, I've noticed different brands have different overall capacities...for instance my Maxtor 40gig shows up as 38.8 whereas my WD 40's showed up as 37.x.
