RPC Server not Available?

I'm trying to install a new game of mine, "Gothic". When I insert the CD, or even try to un the setup program from the CD it will say that the RPC Server is not Available.

I did a services tweak a couple weeks ago, and I haven't had any problems since then, but I don't remember installing anything either. RPC is set to Automatic and is currently running as its hows in my services listing, and RPC Locator is set to manual. I think that is default anyways.... which is why it's confusing me.

I am running Windows XP SP2(which I made a slipstream copy of)

Anyone have any clue? I just tried installing my Studio MX 2004 suite, and it gave me the same exact error. And I would very much like to play this new game or even work on my digital media goodies

I've tried everything suggested in this tread and nothing works.

    I tried to

    ping 127.0.0.1

    and got the answer

Cannot initilize the interface to the Windows Socket. Errorcode: 0

This clearly has something to do with it.

    Anyone with any ideas?

    Yours truly,
