Athlon XP2600+, 266 MHz

I've got a new board coming (Soyo Dragon KT333 Platinum), which can handle up to a 2600, 266. I've never OC'd before, and thought this might be the board to do it to. What chip ought I to buy to do this? Was looking at the 2600 itself, which is @$100. I'd use a Thermalright 8000 or 9000 HS on it, with an 80 mm fan.

Suggestions?

Have you already bought that board or can you change it if you want?

Soyo is well known to be poor overclockers at best. Don´t expect to much from it i´m afraid.

The Fastest Athlons that use FSB266 are the Athlon XP 2600+, the Athlon MP 2600+ and the Athlon MP 2800+ (Barton 512K). All operate at 2.13ghz.

Your KT333 motherboard should also support FSB333 CPUs, of which the fastest are the Thoroughbred 2800+ (2.250ghz rare) and the Barton 3000+ (2.167ghz)

go check Soyo's website for updated info (and Bioses) on the Dragon KT333

the Tbred 1700+/1800+ (1.46/1.53ghz)and the Barton 2500+ (1.83ghz) are your best overclockers.

Bear in mind that most 2600+ are FSB333 (2.083ghz). If you can find one the 2600+ FSB266 CPU is a good choice also.

According to Soyo, the board will only support up to the 2600+, 266, 2.13 GHz. It will not support 333 FSB or Barton's.
