Doesn't it just get ur goat! I would really appreciate it if someone could shed some light on this problem.

All started with a download of WinXP sp2 which crashed my computer - had to do a repair install. since then i have not had reason to d/l anything on it until yesterday. Tried to d/l new folding cure and everything seemed to go fine till when d/l finishes then 'encountered error message' and crashes IE or whatever browser im using.

All d/l via p2p or via LAN still happens fine. Would much appreciate your thoughts.

Did you try and do the repair install with a straight XP cd after it crashing somewhere into a SP2 install? More details.

I do all my sp2 installs by slipstreaming sp2 onto the install cd and repairing that way so its all updated and everything gets replaced properly and I have almost 60 installs now with no probs. On anything.

When was the last time you sweeped for Spyware? Are you protected against virus's? You're saying you actually installed SP2 right? and it crashed while you were trying to install it?

Had you experienced any other stability issues at all up until that point. I would also always recommend you download such things as SP2 from credible sources rather than off P2P networks or from torrent files.

Before installing SP2, you should have sweeped for spyware and virus's. Microsoft recommended doing this for a very good reason.

    Cheers :)

Thanks for the replies. Much appreciated

It was a straight XP cd i used following the partial install.

How do you do the slipstream thing? Can you do it with wXP HE?

I have resident AV, Firewall both software & hardware, regular spybot S&D sweeps, and trojan sweep. All done pre-installation of sp2.

System has been stable as a rock for past 8mths-1yr. No probs whatsoever.

Installation files were from windows update site. wouldn't dream of d/l'ing O/s or major system critical stuff like that from p2p. What i mean is d/l'ing from those types of sources still work but not from within any browser.

    Thanks guys.
