What's wrong with my connection?

When I play a game, all I get is jumping and warping, LAG LAG LAG LAG LAG, where it used to not be laggy at all. Same connection, but many different variables.

The last time I played any game was about a month before the Hurricanes. But also since then I have:

Reinstalled Windows, with SP2
Gotten a new Modem
I think I may have had a different Graphics Card
My PC has also switched rooms

Yesterday I reinstalled both BattleField 1942(1.6 patch) w/ Desert Combat mod 0.7 Full. I also installed Unreal Tournament 2004 with latest patch. BOTH games give me HORRIBLE lag, yet the games I connect to show the same ping as they used to have, but when I enter the game it's PURE LAG FEST. I tested several servers, it just gets worse and worse.

I have checked my router to see if anyone is connected to it, no one is, nor can I see how any one would since I only allow 3 computers to connect BY MAC ADDRESS ONLY. My PC is the only one ever connected though, and it's not connected Wirelessly either, I just switched out the cables for new ones, didn't change anything.

What can I do to test my connection, or better yet FIGURE out what the hell is wrong... I want to play a game soooo badly.

    Go to http://www.dslreports.com/tools

Download the ping test utility. Try the speed test as well, post up your results.

    Here ya go...

    http://www.dslreports.com/beta/doctorping

Also, try the packet loss utility. You have to register though to use it.

Try a new patch cable. Make sure you arent using 56k rate settings in your games.

Creep, as stated before I replaced the cables already with new ones. I also used several different settings in game from 56K to T1.

Guys, last time I ran the speed test my bandwidth was about 3000Kbps/300Kbps, I just ran it(all servers are either BUSY or VERY BUSY) and got 256Kbps/296Kbps. Could only use one of the servers though.

Up speed is normal, but still all servers are very busy.

I thought that I read somewhere that SP2 installs a software bottleneck on your computer. It automatically bottlenecks the amount of info getting in and out to reduce the chance of bad things happening, i.e. hijacking, bad downloads, etc. I am not sure how to remove this (if it is true...). I get fairly laggy speeds anyway so I didn't even look more into this, as I am in Nova Scotia...

i had a problem like that at a friends house. it actually ended up being a setting in his router. i plugged straight into the cable modem no router and it worked fine. you could give that a shot. you could also give your cable company a call and see whats up. at my house i'm at the end of the chain or soemthing like that and so i get dropped connections every once in a while which sucks. they are giving me a discount because i complain a lot which is nice  some cable modems also have a utility to check the modem itself stats. one other suggesttion...this may be a stupid idea but you could try and take your computer to someone elses house and see what happens. most likely it's your internet connection but could be hardware related...this will rule out the computer. hope this helps

Just tried the router, it's not the problem, even when plugged directly to the modem. This weekend I am gonna revert back to SP1 and see what happens then. I may try reinstalling SP2 first though, if it still cuases the problems, then I'll install SP1. If that doesn't fix it, then I'll call the cable company. I ain't taking this PC anywhere... it takes hours to get it plugged up and wires and all where I like them so they're outta the way. :shakehead
