I got news today from both Corel and Jasc that Corel HAS acquired Jasc (sale agreement is complete adn agreed to by principals of both companies). Looks like teh Jasc staff will be retained and the program names will not change and wil instead be continued. Paint shop Pro was highlighted as a Corel offering, BOTH subversions of it, both PSP Studio and the more complex (but more useable for pinpoint or fine fixes) PSP will be continued. Expect Corel to also integrate some of the functions of PSP in re photos especially into Corel Graphics Suite, possibly including PSP or a large part of it in Corel Graphics Suite.
I don't usually do press release pass-ons, this one could impact users as many folks use Corel Graphics Suite or Paint Shop Pro or both, as I do.
IMHO, PSP 9.0 rocks best for photos, and Corel Graphics Suite for desktop publishing illustrations or very, VERY fancy type-setting capabilities. Since together they price out to less than a decent grade of Adobe product for me (used both for a long time, and upgrades are economical even from older versions of them), I use and like those products. PSP 9.0 can pull data directly from my Camedia via a standard USB camera to computer cable or a flash card reader, so I am also happy with it in that respect.
Jasc's website is still up for those of you who want to use it, and have no word on whether the content will be absorbed into Corel's site or if it will stay separate. I also do not know yet if Jasc will be a separately named operating division of Corel or if Corel will replace the Jasc name on software that is now labelled Jasc. I got word a while back that this going to happen, now it has.
