Interested in upgrading hard drives...

edited October 2004 in Hardware
Recently I've been noticing long start up times since I've installed my eVGA 6800 and have long been considering a hard drive upgrade.

I am currently running an 80 gb 7200 rpm hd, and was looking over at newegg at some raptors that are on sale.

My only questions are:

1. Is my system compatible with SATA?

2. Are these hd's good?

Basically I just want to decrease startup time.

Thanks for the help.

You would know if you had a sata controller card installed, it would be in one of your PCI slots.

BTW: You have 2 SATA interfaces on your motherboard.

I think (note: Not positive, but since my bro has it, I've seen them) that your board as built-in S-ATA. As for the raptors, I was wondering about them myself, but I've seen a lot of posts around here (mostly be Tex ;D) that say they aren't really worth it... I've never used them, so don't take my word for it ... ... ... crap, I sound like that Reading Rainbow guy :(

I use a 74 gb Raptor at work. It is the single greatest thing since sliced bread.

It scores 54mb/s in Sandra, but I haven't ATTO'd it.
